PERSPECTIVE

GEOMETRY

The website perspectivegeometry (PG) was issued in 2002, and recently moved to SquareSpace. The scope of PG is to disseminate articles written by Tomás García-Salgado (PhD, UNAM). It should be noted that most of his articles were originally published in renowned journals, where readers can also find them.

The topics covered in his articles may be of interest to scholars involved in current research on the theory and practice of perspective.

Perspective Geometry Philosophy

As the noun of this Website suggests, the object of interest is the study of the geometry that is used to draw perspective. It was during Renaissance time when the theoretical principles of perspective were set down and put into practice. Today, the way such principles are applied is what we call methods.

At first, all methods were applied by means of geometry; a time in which triangle rulers, pencils and paper sufficed for all needs. But then, in the late 1970s, computer graphics come up as a new tool for drawing perspective. A tool very useful, no doubt, but it does not replace the human touch of pencils. There is no reason to debate which one is the best, since both hand drawing and computer graphics are used for different purposes.
